YOUTH’S DEATH.
Evidence at Inquest.
(Special to the “ Star.”) TIMARU, December 9.
Eric James Kelly, aged seventeen, employed at Fairview, was loading timber on t , a pole waggon yesterday afternoon, when apparently the horses bolted and crushed him against a fence post. He died without recovering consciousness.
The inquest was held before the Coroner, Mr A. L. Gee, J.P., yesterday. Dr C. S. Fraser said that he had examined the body. There were abrasions at*.the back of the right shoulder and in the middle of the back, but there were no external signs of severe laceration or injury. He presumed that the cause of death would be fracture of the base of the skull. The injuries were consistent with a severe blow against some hard object. There was no blood on the post. The Coroner returned a verdict that deceased had died as a result of a fracture of the base of the skull, apparently caused when the horses he was driving bolted and crushed him against a fence post.
