SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
At the monthly meeting of the Woolston School Committee there were present: Messrs C. E. Johnston (chairman). J. Knighton (secretary), A. Marquet. W. Smith, C. Cater, H. Sullivan, E Teague, L. Crothers and C. E. PenBelly. The head master’s report showed the attendance figures to be: Boys 297, girls 2SO; total. 587. It was reported that Miss Steele, an exchange teacher from Durban, Natal, was returning to South Africa shortly, and that Miss
Watson was relieving until the end of the year. Mr Dauber had accepted a position at the East Christchurch School, but his successor had not yet been appointed. I&iccarton. At the monthly meeting of the Riccarton School Committee, Mr E. Evans presided. The headmaster’s report showed the roll number to be 248, with an average attendance of 234. The inspector’s report was received, and Mr Gamble and bis staff were congratulated on their good work. The chairman reported a profit of £2 4s 5d for the month from the card tournaments. It was de-
cided to hold tlie school picnic at Rees ton on February 16, provided suitabh arrangements can be made. A vote o thanks was accorded Mr W. .1. Bowmai for his offer to supply two ladders fo the bath. After the committee meeting, a meet ing in connection with the Christina fair was held. Stallholders reported a excellent response from householder? Mrs G. N. Ormandy was appointed judg; of the decorated perambulators, tricycle; and bicycles, and Mrs E. Kappeley wa placed in charge of the sweets stall. I was decided to invite Mr C. S. Thomsoi to open the fair.
