BRIGHTON GIRL GUIDES.
The New Brighton company of Girl Guides held their annual meeting in the Pier Hall, the Rev S. Bailey being in the chair. * The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £4 10s sd. The president (Mrs C. Evans) congratulated the girls on winning the shield at the distrtict rally, am? thanked Miss D. Simmons (Aranui) for training them in folk-dancing; Mesdames D. M’Kenzie, R. Parker and W. A. East (North Beach Ladies’ Committee). for help in raising funds; and Mr R. Parker, for conducting dances; also the secretary and treasurer. Mrs J. H. foddington, and the New Brighton Scouts for the use of the Scout House for the *' Owls.” The captain (Miss C. L. Evans) reported that there were now 32 Guides on the roll, an improvement on last year. At the district rally at Linwood Fark on December 1, the company, in competition with seven other teams, won the shield” presented by the divisional commissioner. Miss O. M’Tlraith. Brown Owl Eileen D. Evans reported that there were twelve Brownies on the roll, a decrease of four. Five Golden .Hands had been won, and the Magic Carpet had twelve proficiency badges, six Golden Hands, six Golden Bars. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, the Mayor of New Brighton (Mr E. A. M. Leaver); vice-patrons, the Rev S. Bailey and "Mr R. Parker: president, Mrs C. Evans; vice-presidents, Mesdames J. Bellamy, S. Napper, W. A. East, R. Smith; secretary and treasurer, Mrs J. H. CodcPington; eommitttee, -Mesdames D. S. Turner, W. Fitcliett and R. Parker, with power to add. The committee will meet on February 12, and on each succeeding second Tuesday in the month; and the Guides will reassemble on Friday. February 1. Subsequent to the meeting, a dance was given for the young folk, the music being played by Miss Maisie Ottey, and Mr R. Parker being M.C.
