MOTHERS’ UNION SOCIAL.
To mark the. close of the year for the Sumner branch of the Mothers’ Union, a social afternoon was held in the Parish Hall. Mrs 11. J. Marriner, enrolling member for many years, was present, after an absence since last May, owing to ill-health. Mrs Marriner was presented with bouquets by Mrs T. E. Whitfield, Mrs L. P. Longuet and 'Mrs Niven Forrest. On behalf of Mrs Marriner, the Rev W. A. Orange welcomed visitors from the Woolston Mothers’ Union, Redcliffs Sub-Branch, Sumner Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union, and the Sumner Methodist Ladies’ Guild. Reference was made to the loss sustained by Mrs Hudson Brown in the death of her husband, and a motion of sympathy was passed. An excellent programme included songs by Mr Westby Sheppard and Airs H. J. Quarrell, a violin solo by Airs E. L. Cordery, a piano solo by Miss Lilian Harper, and recitations by Miss Staples. Miss Harper was accompanist. On the motion of Mrs W. H. Nicholson, a vote of thanks was passed to all those who had assisted during the afternoon.
