Swimming Club Holds Meeting.
A committee meeting of the Hornby Amateur Swimming Club was held in the Hornby School on Tuesday evening, ll } e club captain (Mr A. E. Grubb) presiding. Also present were the president r _ H. D. Moran). Misses O. Purchas, M. K. Gardiner and M. Mackie, Messrs W. R. Moore, F. O’Flynn, W. Minards, T Clegg, R. Garnett, H. R. Thomson, R ' j Leonard and .T. Marsden. Correspondence was received from the Canterbury Centre advising that the club was entitled to another delegate, owing to its increased membership, and Mr H. Thomson was appointed. A letter was re ? e iT ed from a lady member pointing out the inadenuacy of the ladies’ dressing sheds, and it was decided to adont the irrmrovements suggested. Accounts amounting to £4 Is 8d were passed for payment. Mr and Mrs W. R. Moore advised that they "were donating a rose howl as a trophy for competition for the lady members, conditions to he similar to those for the President’s Cup. A vote of thanks was accorded the donors for their generous gift and their interest in the welfare of the club. Arrangements were made for conducting a night carnival on Wednesdav, December 12. The delegates to the centre were instructed to entor a protest on the regrading of the fifth-grade team to the fourth grade. The club oantain advised that he had been successful in getting two men’s and one woman’s team for the Christchurch competitions. Advice was received that March 2 had been allotted for the Hornby inter-club carnival. Personal. There was a large gathering of employees of the Islington freezing works for the purpose of making a presentation of a clock to Mr R. Macdonald, who has retired after manv years’ service with the New Zealand Refrigerating Co., T.td. The presentation was made bv Mr V. Parker, who. on behalf of his fellow workers, asked Mr Macdonald to accept the gift as a token of esteem, and wished him every success in his future activities.
