RELIEF GRANTS.
Sum of £65,000 Available for Distribution. UNEMPLOYED TO BENEFIT. (Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, This Day. The sum of £65,000 is being expended by the Unemployment Board in giving special concessions to registered unemployed over the Christmas and New Year period. The Acting-Minister of Employment (the Hon J. A. Young) stated to-day that relief workers who. but for the holidays, would be normally employed in that fortnight. will receive two weeks’ pay without the necessity of working. In addition, a general gratuity, the equivalent of one week’s relief pa)*. will also be distributed to those registered and eligible unemployed on the registers of December 8 who during the preceding twelve months have worked for thirteen weeks on relief employment.
