MIXED CRICKET?

Sydney Girl Practices With First Grade Players. Habitues of Jubilee Oval at Glebe, Sydney, have been provided with something novel—a girl practising with the first-grade male players. Arrangements have been made for Amy Hudson to attend the nets and thus get practice and experience of turf against the time when she expects to appear for the State against the visiting English players. The officials who have discussed it are satisfied that it is their job to encourage local talent. They feel that cricket is cricket, whether played by men or women, and that if they can help a local product to gain a place against the English women and excel, it is their duty to do so. Miss Hudson will be serious in her efforts to master turf, and the men will, no doubt, remember that she has skill, and is not to be treated with the disdain with which we were in olden times prone to treat the cricketing efforts of the weaker sex. Discussing it, one official asked what would be the position if the Glebe committee considered Miss Hudson worth a game in one of their teams? It is interesting, but no doubt she would be quite satisfied to stay in the Women's Association. Mixed cricket would be rather difficult.
