Sporting Blocd to-day completed his task of equalling the performance of Nightly who, twelve months earlier, won the Rlccarton Handicap, the N.Z. Derby and the Canterbury Cup. Sporting Blood was an. odds on fancy to heat his four opponents in the Cup. Red Manfred was first to break the line, but Sporting Blood led out of the straight from Aesculus with Polydora last. At the mile and a quarter post Sporting Blood led from Hazoor and Aesculus with Polydora last. Hazoor joined Sporting Blood at the mile, and a furlong further on Hazoor had sole charge from Sporting Blood, Aesculus and Red Manfred. Sporting Blood joined Hazoor again near the 2ve furlongs and the fayourite led round the home 1 turn from Hazoor while Palydora moved into third place. Sporting Blood was first into the straight and he came on to win easily by a length and a quarter from Hazoor who beat Polydora by a neck. Red Manfred was three lengths away fourth. L. J.
