WOMEN DOCTORS ONLY

London Hospital to Be Reserved. The plans which the governors of the West London Hospital. Hammersmith, are considering, for making the hospital a school for the training of women medical students only, will be followed with interest, says a writer in “ The Queen.” For many years now the post-gradu-ate school of the West London has been of great' importance, but in view of the coming establishment of the British Post-Graduate School of Medicine, near the hospital, every opportunity for the proposed change has presented itself. There is a grave deficiency, at the present time, in facilities in London for women who wish to enter the medical profession. Some hospitals do not admit women at all, while others limit the number of entrants to as few as twelve a year. The consequence has been that many women, particularly Londoners who have wished to become doctors, have been obliged to go to the provincial universities. The West London would be able to accommodate about seventy women. This would be insufficient, by a great

deal, to meet the demands of London women, but it would be, at least, a step in the right direction. It is ex pected that the matter will be settled in October, • when the University oi London will have had an opportunity to consider the plan.
