THE SOCIAL ROUND.

Gatherings Held in Town and Country. COIN EVENING AT PAPANUI. An enjoyable coin evening was held on Saturday at the home of Mr and Mrs W. Roberts, Westholme Street, Papanui, in aid of the funds for the Seiwyn Nursing- Division of the St John Ambulance Association. The evening was spent in games and dancing, novelty dances being won by Mrs G. Eden and Mr Arthur Stone (lucky spot), Mrs E. Allan and Mr C. Eden (Monte Carlo), Miss Eddington and Mr Frank Smith (statue, dance). A competition was won by Mr and Mrs Eden. Music for the dancing was supplied by Messrs Garland, Frank Smith and Colvin Brown. Those present were:—Mr and Mrs C. Eden, Mr and Mrs E. Allan, Mr and Mrs J. Bamford, Mr and Mrs H. Rayner, Mr and Mrs W. Roberts, Mesdames Griffen and T. Angus, Misses Eddington, P. Grant, Phyllis Allan, Olive Taylor, Molly Kane and Freda Wilson, Messrs G. Sloane, A. Stone, Garland, F. Smith, G. Sharman, A. Marshall, T. Dineen, Brown (Dunedin) and D. FraLadies' Guild Social. Members of the St Columba Ladies’ Guild, Hornby, held a successful card evening in the Parish Hall on Saturday, when a large number of people participated in the play. The prizes were won by Mrs Morris and Mr J. Drake, with Mrs W. Freeman and Mr G. Simpson second. Supper was served by the hostesses for the evening, Mesdames Davis, sen., A. Whale and N. Davis. Party at Rakaia. A pleasant evening was spent on Saturday at the residence of Mr and Mrs Butler, Dorie, Rakaia, in honour of the birthdays of Mrs Butler and Miss Thelma Taylor, a number of friends motoring from Christchurch. Those present were:—Mr and Mrs Butler, sen., Air and Mrs A. Butler, jun., Mr and Airs Haughten, Air and Airs J. Hayes, Air and Airs W. Terry, Air and Mrs J. Burrell, Mrs A. Taylor, Misses Re&g.v Nelson, Billy Gregg, Thelma Taylor, Messrs N- Perkins, A. Beardsell, C. Cranefield, J. Laraman, C. Rapley and R. Taylor.
