SHOW ACTIVITY.

Preparations at Grounds To-day. TENTS GOING UP. Visiting the Addington Showgrounds this morning, one gained ample evidence of the careful preparation and the capable organisation that will present the usual highly efficient Judging Day- to-morrow and the bustling People’s Day on Friday'. Over a wide area an army of men were busy' putting up tents, erecting frameworks for to-morrow’s exhibits, marshalling stock and carrying out the many tasks necessary in organising the big show. Not a great deal of stock had arrived, but the pigs were definitely' there, screaming their disgust or snorting morosely in their pens. In another corner of the ground the large array' of sheep was slowly collecting, the animals, clad in their “ overcoats,” resignedly' awaiting the judging. Sideshow alley was a busy place with saws and hammers working overtime in the erection of the several “ greatest shows on earth.” Show time is definitely working time for the officials of the Canterbury' Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and this morning the secretary (Mr M. E. Ly’ons) was constantly in demand dealing with the hundred and one problems that face a show secretary for some days before and also some day's after the event. Some Improvements. A number of improvements have been effected for this y'ear’s show, the most noticeable being the installation of a public address sy r stem to be used for announcing results and instructions and marshalling the many competitors. The front of the grandstand now presents a smart appearance with the construction of a new concrete and iron fence. Increased interest in the horse section has resulted in heavy' demands for space, so that sixteen more boxes have been provided and all the accommodation has been booked. In addition, the pony' and light horse enclosures have been enlarged and surrounded with a new fence similar to that placed in front of the stand. The reflooring and painting of the produce sheds has been carried out, and additional lockers for exhibitors’ gear have been provided in the cattle pavilion. Futhermore. the dining rooms have been cleaned and renovated. Altogether the grounds present a highly' satisfactory appearance, and everything promises well for an even more successful show than in past years. Record entries have been received, and it is considered that the space covered by tents will be greater this year than previously.
