DEATH OF A. C. WILMOT.
Former (Cycling Champion of New Zealand. (Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. Formerly champion cyclist of New I Zealand, Mr Arthur Cecil Wilmot died at his residence, Hillsborough, Hamilton, on Sunday. Born in Victoria, he came to New i Zealand as a youth and later joined :an auctioneering firm in Christchurch. I From boyhood he was intensely interj ested in cycling and at 15 won his first ; 25-mile championship on an old “ pennyfarthing ” machine. He was the | holder of the world’s half-mile grass track record, which he secured in Sydney in 1904. Wilmot competed in all the leading cycling championships in New Zealand and was also very successful in Australia. He played Rugby football and was formerly a North Canterbury representative when residing at Rangiora. During the past ten years he lived in retirement in Hamilton. He is survived by his second wife and a son. Mr Lester Wilmot, of Christchurch.
