“PAY-PARTIES.”
London Hostesses’ Latest Fad. LONDON, October 29. The “ Daily Mail ” states that many Mayfair hostesses, anticipating unprecedented entertaining expenses during the King’s jubilee next year, are conserving their resources during the “ little season ” by the introduction of the “ pay-party.” This, at the moment, is the most popular entertainment. Two or three hostesses invite a select party, each guest paying from one to two guineas towards the cost of the food, drink, and amusements, including a small dance band. In some cases the surplus is given to charity. One of the biggest “ pay-parties ” ever organised is a fancy-dress affair, fo which hundreds are being invited. The organisers include Lady Diana Cooper and Lady Carnarvon.
