DRESSES AT RICCARTON.

There was a cold wind, unchivalrous to wide, shallow hats, to-day at Riccarton, for ladies’ day. But women will not suffer the wind or weather to put them either out of temper or of fashion, so much is versatility a feature of their wardrobe this summer, so little known the word monotonous to their vocabulary, and the trim suits and tailored ensembles made another triumphant appearance. A characteristic of the meeting has been the continued use in the summerweight fabrics of the plaid and the broken check, the fleck and the spot, the stripe, from hair stripe to the candy and lightning variety, all of which have vied strongly with the liower-printed materials. Blue, both in its deep and pale tones, was again to-day’s colour, but there was more black and white, ash grey and the dull shade of green.
