Girls' Cricket.
Dear Sir,—On Saturday last I had the privilege of witnessing a cricket match between ladies’ teams at Ensors Road. The standard of play impressed me so much that I made inquiries and elicited the facts that the teams were Argyle House and Technical Old Girls, and the players who treated the spectators to such a delightful exhibition of batting were G. Mortimer, M. Richards, M. Norman and D. Preece. Such a free and artistic display was a real tonic to an old enthusiast and I offer my heartiest congratulations to the girls apd their coaches for attaining such a high standard. If the English girls, who I understand are visiting the Dominion shortly, play better cricket then they surely must be world-beaters. Perhaps you could inform me how many matches the English team will play and also the dates.—l am. etc., OLD N.G. No dates have so far been agreed upon for the English team’s matches in New Zealand, but the women’s cricket council has drawn up an itinerary which includes a game against a Canterbury team about the middle of February, 1935. This list has not been approved by the Australian authorities and consequently no definite information concerning the dates and matches can be given.—Ed., “Star.”
