That the building trade is prospering at Home is evidenced by official returns supplied to the Ministry of Labour by 142 local authorities for the year ended June. ; In the last twelve months there were 1 built houses to the value of £7.018.000. compared with £5.050.800 in the rear j before. In the same period the value jof new factories and workshops more than doubled. The figure jumped from £307,500 in 1932-3 to £734,900 in 1933-4. i The greatest activity in housing development was in outer London, the i north and west Midland counties and i Yorkshire.
