Sunday Football.
Dear Sir,—Will you kindly accept my thanks for your inquiries made in response to my recent letter regarding League football on Sunday' last. It is a good thing to have the position so admirably clarified, even though the information supplied may’ be dismal reading to many' of your readers. I think we rather prided ourselves that whilst the “ Continental Sunday ” was all very well for such places as Germany and Russia we in New Zealand were very much to the good without it. Without unduly' straining the relationship between cause and effect it may be said that the present chaos of many Continental States is not entirely caused by circumstances other than their desecration of the Sabbath. The League authorities may flatter themselves that by catering for the amusement of some 8000 folks on Sunday afternoon they have performed a useful service to the community, but they may rest well assured that they have done no permanent good either for the community in general or their own brand cf sport in particular. “ The mills of God grind slowly—but they grind exceeding small.” and we as a community can ill-afford to join the ranks of those who would seek to Russianise our religion and its customs. —I am. etc., SPORT NO. 1.
