STOPPED FOR LUNCH.

Miss Batten Flies From Invercargill..

Miss Jean Batten, the famous aviatrix, who has been making a tour of the South Island in her own machine, flew from Invercargifl to Blenheim today. She stopped at Wigram Aerodrome for lunch, and left shortly before two o’clock, escorted by Squad-ron-Leader J. L. Findla>’ in the Royal New Zealand Air Force Puss Moth. After India and Australia, Miss Batten finds fiving in the South Island a cold sort of business. She arrived in Christchurch on a cold and frosty morning, and when asked about her trip this afternoon also complained about the chilliness of the atmosphere. “ Quite a smooth trip, but a head wind most of the wav',” she said. Miss Batten was escorted from Invercargill by Flight-Lieutenant M. W. Buckley -in a Moth. The trip took four and a half hours.

“ Wonderful,” replied Miss Batten shortly when asked what kind of a reception she had been given in Dunedin and Invercargill. She has enjoyed her tour, although it has been rather strenuous, and is looking forward to flying round the North Island. After leaving instructions for the petrol tanks of her machine to be refilled. Miss Batten had lunch at the aerodrome. To-morrow she will fly from Blenheim to Wanganui, escorted by Squadron-Leader L. M. Isitt.
