DEFICIT EXPECTED.

Acclimatisation Society’s Budget.

A deficit of £155 in the accounts for the present year was estimated by the Finance Committee of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society in submitting its budget at last evening’s meeting of t-he council of the society. Mr C. H. Lawrence, chairman of the committee, stated that the committee had based its calculations as far as possible on average receipts for the past three years, after taking into account the falling away of revenue which had bee. so marked with regard to fishing and shooting licenses. The estimated receipts were shown at £2070. The expenditure was estimated at £2225. To balance the budget, drastic economies must still be practised, stated the report. Mr Lawrence urged that the society should concentrate on the liberation of quail, as he was of opinion that in this way the revenue could be increased considerably. Mr K. Campion said that the Hatchery Committee estimated that the revenue from the sale of ova would be about £2OO, instead of the estimate of £175. The Finance Committee had budgeted for a deficit last year, but had finished the year with a substantial credit balance.
