Two of America’s most capable gloom dispellers, Edward Everett Horton and Edna May Oliver, defeat Old Man Depression in “ The Poor Rich.” Assisting the stars in their diverting and nonsensical rqut of hard times is a cast which includes such well-known players as Andy Devine, Leila Hyams, Thelma Todd, Una O’Connor, John Miljan, E. E. Clive and Grant Mitchell. The story opens with Albert Stuyvesant Spottiswood (Horton) and Harriet Winthrop Spottiswood (Edna May Oliver), helpless and penniless aristocrats,! arriving at their long-deserted family estate near Old Haven, Connecticut, Albert completing the journey in a rattletrap car and Harriet in a 1913 electric brougham towed behind a decrepit flivver. “ Forty-second Street,” a dramatic spectacle of the American theatre, carries a wonderful all-star cast of eleven, besides featured actors of note, a picked chorus of 150 beautiful girls and hundreds of “ extra ” players. The cast is headed bv Warner Baxter and Bebe Daniels. “ Forty-second Street ” is a show within* a show.
