Wellington Side Defeated in High Scoring Game. HAWKE’S BAY BEAT MANAWATU. recognised as the premier North Island T representative Rugby team last season, were defeated by V\ airarapa by 21 points to 16 in a fine game played at Masterton yesterday. Fortunes fluctuated continually, and it was only m the last few minutes of the game that the home team scored the winning try. Playing at Palmerston North, the first challengers for the Kanturly Shield this season, Hawke’s Bay, triumphed over Manawatu in a high scoring match. The Bay, whose superiority lay in the backs, finally won by 22 points to 16. Locally principal interest centred in the annual match between Christ’s College and Christchurch Boys’ High School, which was won by College by the narrow margin of b points to 3. Tlie teams were evenly matched, and the play was studded with those fine passing rushes that make school Rugby a delight to watch.
