Harry Bridges, the militant leader of the striking longshoremen, in a statement to-day said: “The general strike is over.” Bridges added: “But the longshoremen are not beaten.” He intimated that the action of the General Strike Committee in authorising the full reopening of gasoline stations and union restaurants and meat markets to the public had thwarted the objective of the general strike.
