COLD CONDITIONS.
Third Fall of Snow or* Port Hills.
Following yesterday's southerly storm, the weather early tc-day promised to make amends, but the morning had not progressed very far before heavy clouds obscured the sky. The sunshine was shut out, and this helped tn keep the temperature at a low level after the frost of 10.2 degrees. For the third time this winter the hills on the south side of Lyttelton harbour are heavily coated with snow. Although the greater part of Canterbury is free from snow, heavy falls have been experienced north of Waiau on the inland rqute to ICaikoura. Traffic was delayed yesterday, but conditions were improved this morning, the snow having frozen solid by a frost of 17 degrees last night. Snow lies on the road to a depth of five inches a few miles north of Waiau, the depth increasing to a foot on the higher country.
Three inches of snow fell at the Hilltop during the night. At Akaroa the conditions were cold, but there ■was no snow in the township.
