Trunk Murder Crimes. CHARGED WITH KILLING VIOLETTE KAYE. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received July 18, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 17. Smart work by two constables at 1 a.m. to-day resulted in the arrert of Tony Mancini. who was wanted in connection with the Trunk Murder Crimes at Brighton. Mancini has now been charged with the murder of Yiolette Kaye. He will appear at the Brighton Police Court on July IS. The constables who arrested Mancini recognised him when he was walking along Eltham Road. They accosted him and took him to Leegrgen Police Station, where detectives from Scotland Yard arrived at dawn. They questioned Mancini for two hours and then decided to charge him. Mancini has been sought for several days and his description was broadcast throughout England. Continental ports were also being watched by foreign police authorities. Scotland Yard has deliberately labelled the trunk mysteries as “ Trunk Crime .Number One ” and “Trunk Crime Number Two," in order to separate them in the public mind and emphasise the continuance of the search for clues to identify the torso found on June 18, which is described as “ crime number one.” The crime is obviously the work of a murderer, who employed fiendish cleverness to prevent discovery. • Even the manner of death is unknown, and a month’s intensive work has not produced a single fact to disclose identity. The “ Daily Telegraph ” says that a third woman, Ethel Arnold, was found ill in a street at Brighton and died in hospital, allegedlv from the effects of poisoning, but this is not confirmed at present. She went to Brighton to identify Violette Kaye’s bodv. Violette Kaye was among the hst of one hundred missing women which the police published in connection with crime number one. . It is stated that the police interviewed Tony Mancini on Saturday before the discovery of the body of Violette Kaye. Mancini is reported to have trembled like a leaf when questioned by the He said he knew nothing material regarding beyond her age, which ruled her out as the unknown woman found on June 18. This woman’s age was between twenty-one and twenty-five. The police subsequently allowed Mancini to go. The Sea-front Romeo. It is also reported that he sold clothing belonging to Violette Kaye to others. Violette Kaye was the eldest of sixteen children. She left home when she was fourteen and had a chequered career as a dancer. She is said to have earned £2O a week in her best davs.

The police believe that Violette Kaye was murdered in the basement of a flat in Park Crescent, Brighton, where she lived, in the latter half of May, which was a week before “ crime number one ” was committed. The body was immediately packed in a trunk and carried by two men half a mile to Kemp Street. The police have already obtained a statement from the man who assisted to carry the trunk. The “ Daily Express ” says that an amusement park employee told the police that he stayed the night in Mancini’s room, saw the trunk and remarked on its odour Mancini did not reply. His friend could not tolerate it any more than one night.
