PORT OF KAIAPOI.

Meeting of Waimakariri Board. The Waimakariri Harbour Board met at Kaiapoi last night. Present: The chairman (Mr R. F. Joyce), Messrs W. A. Young, J. Bryden, J. A. Mealings, J. Hirst, H. Rinaldi and D. M. Ramsay. The Harbour Committee reported that it had been decided to erect a light awning on the dredge. In connection with the hire of the dredge by the Waimakariri River Trust the committee recommended that the charge of £2 10s per day be computed on 5J days per week. * The report was adopted. The Works Committee reported that tenders had been accepted for renovating the board’s house in Charles Street and it was recommended that the house he let at a rental of 10s per week, payable in advance. The report was adopted.

The financial statement showed receipts since last meeting £7l 2s, credit bank balance £lO2 7s 4d. Accounts passed for payment totalled £9l 2s lOd. The signalmen reported that the Foxton and the Ngahau had worked the port during the past month, taking 258 tons of cargo for ’Wellington. The bar was still slowly travelling southwards, and the bar beacons had been shifted three times. Beacons were ready to l>e erected round the north spit, and would be placed in position in the next few days. Two new bar beacons were being constructed to be kept on hand for replacements.
