Was Due to Accidental Suffocation. A four-months-old baby boy, Lionel Edward Clegg, was found dead in his cot at the residence of his parents, 371, St Asaph Street, yesterday morning. An inquest was held in the afternoon before Mr E. D. Mosley, Coroner, when a verdict was returned that death was due to accidental suffocation caused by the inhalation of vomited material. Eva Isabel Clegg, mother of the infant, said that the boy was a twin and had been brought home from Karitane about two weeks ago. About midnight last night she heard him cry out, but he stepped, and she took no further notice. About 5.30 a.m. she went to feed the child and found it had been vQmiting and seemed to be dead. She called her husband and a doctor was summoned. Dr Orchard, said that he was called to the house about 6 a.m., and found the child dead. The infant was well covered and well dressed and was lying on his left side in a cot. There was a large amount of vomited material, consisting of partly-digested food, lying on the pillow and also in the mouth. He considered that death was due to suffocation caused by the inhalation of vomited material.

The Coroner said the explanation was perfectly simple. lie returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.
