LONDON. July 2.

The weather was sweltering and humid when the lawn tennis championships were continued at Wimbledon An enormous crowd was present. Stoeffen led 4-2 in the first set, and then Crawford, by means of extra pace, particularly on the backhand, ran out the set.

In the second set Crawford played like a tired man, frequently netting and double-faulting.

Crawford improved considerably in the third set, found the corners with his service and scored with fine driving placements. Stoeffen also offered more accurate resistance, serving, driving and smashing severely, but Crawford won the set on a good service game. Stoeffen. who was now tiring badly, abandoned his attempts to retrieve shots which formerly he achieved brilliantly. The American virtually abandoned the struggle, giving the Australian an easy love set for the match. Results: Men’s Singles. Quarter-finals. J. Crawford (A istralia) beat L.
