Popular Dance Numbers.
Dear Sir, —" Learning to Croon ” praises the American dance bands, and says that the English ones are not within miles of t.heir quality. I suppose he would class English bands suf'h as Jack Hylton's. Billy Cotton’s, Jack Payne’s and Ray Noble's second class. If he was to take notice of the dance numbers plaved over the air he would find that most of them were played by British bands. Also, why were Jack Hylton and his hand invited over to America to play, and why do Ray Noble’s records sell so well in U.S.A.? Because they are second rate? Noble composed *' Goodnight Sweetheart” and this was the biggest dance number America and England had known for years “By the Fireside ” and “ Love is the Sweetest Thing ” proclaimed him among the very best dance music composers in the world. I would like to know of the American bands that " Learning to Croon ” asserts are better than British ones. —I em, etc., CONSTANT LISTENER
