MUSICAL PARTY.
Funds for the Seamen’s Institute.
Mesdames H. A. Bishop and Alan Boon were joint hostesses at an enjoyable’musical afternoon held at “ Ingestre," the residence of Mrs Alan Boon, Lonsdale Street, New Brighton. Mrs Boon wore a becoming frock of cherry red matelasse. and Mrs Bishop winecoloured wind-swept crepe de chine with lame trimming. The drawing-
room was decorated with bowls of Iceland poppies and autumn flowers. The function was held to raise funds to pay for the license and wireless set at the British Sailors’ Society Institute, Lyttelton, and about £3 was realised. The guests were members of the Christchurch and Opawa branches of the society- A competition for a cake was won by Mrs J. S. Kelly, and a second competition was won by Mesdames Stuart and G. J. Smith.
The musical programme was arranged by Mrs W. Toomey, and Mesdames Toomey and Simpson acted as accompanists. Items were given by Mesdames Grace Empson (song l , Simpson (piano solo), D. F. Dennehv (piano solo) and Alan Young (musical monologue). and Misses Myra Sutton (song) and C E. Ryan (song). Afternoon tea was provided by the hostesses.

Sandale. S. Winney, Johnson, Tom Robins. T. King. Grace Empson. Simpson, D. F. Dennehy and Alan Young. Misses Myra Sutton, C. E. Ryan, Fryer, Wafform, Eva Winner and Thelma Raphael.
Donations were sent by Mesdames J. T Royds. S. R. Webb. G. B. Morgan. Misses Ballantyne, M’Pherson and B. Cottrell.
