OUTSTANDING DRAMA.

“ The Wandering Jew ” for Civic, Saturday.

The witty Irish comedy, “ General John Regan/’ will conclude it? season at the Civic Theatre to-mon ~>w night. There is no doubt that “The Wandering Jew,” which will open at the Civic All-British Theatre on Saturday, has every right to claim the distinction of being a screen epic. It is said that nothing so massive has been previously attempted for the talking screen and one has to go back to the silent days of “ Quo Vad ; s

and “ Ben Hur ” to find a film of such magnitude. A conspicuous feature of the production is the wonderful acting of Conrad Veidt, who is one of the world’s greatest screen stars. The story is taken in four phases and a different feminine lead appears in each. The feminine roles are filled by Anne Grey, Joan Maude, Peggy Ashcroft and New Zealand’s Marie Ney. The story concerns a Jew who, when Christ was being persecuted, mocked Him, and as a result was condemned to a wandering existence for fifteen centuries. From all parts of the world enquiries were made for this film when it was released in London and wherever screened in New Zealand it has not only attracted record audiences but has also attracted to its screenings people who have never before viewed a talking picture. Plans are already rapidly filling ana patrons are advised to make early application for reserves at the Theatre
