Bet at Zoo Led to Death of Man. lIAT THROWN INTO CAGE. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegrs ph—Copyright. (Received June 14, 1.25 p.m.) LONDON, June 13. The tragic story of a shilling bet and its acceptance was told at the inquest on Stanley Stenson, who was killed when he fell into the lions’ den at the Zoo. Horace My hill, of London, related how Stenson offered, if his hat fell into the cage, to fetch it for £SOO. “ I replied, ‘ I’ll bet you a bob,’ ’* said My hill. My hill admitted that he threw in his hat, which fell near a lion. Suddenly I saw Stenson inside the rails,” he said. “The lion sprang and gripped him. I went in and held Stenson’s arm, but eventually was forced to let go.” The Coroner, in returning a verdict of death by misadventure, expressed the opinion that the fencing should l>e reinforced to prevent a repetition of such foolish tricks.
