CONFERENCE SOUGHT.
Stewards Hold Meeting in Wellington.
A meeting of ships’ stewards was held in Wellington yesterday to for mutate proposals to submit to the shipowners regarding rates of pay and conditions of work. The main demand of the men wis for the restoration of the 10 per cent cut, and on this question they sough* a conference with the owners’ rep-e----sentatives.
It was stated this morning that vp till five o’clock yesterday, when the meeting was adjourned, no conference had been arranged. The men’s rep’-e sentatives remained in Wellington last night, and it was hoped that thw would be able to meet the owners today.
