Competition Alleged to be Gaming Act Breach.
MOTOR-CAR AS A PRIZE
A competition with a Baby Austin car as a prize conducted bv Hay’s, Ltd., drapers, of 103-105, Gloucester Street, resulted in a prosecution by the police under the Gaming Act. Hav’s, Ltd., of which James Lawrence Hay wase cited as managing-director, faced the charge in the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.
The text of the charge was as follows: “That Hay’s, Ltd., on April 11 and on dates between April 11 and May 17. at Christchurch, did conduct a scheme whereby a promise was made that an Austin 7 motor-car valued at £299 would be disposed of by a certain device contrarv to Section 41 of the Gaming Act, 1908. Sub-section (c). (Proceeding.)
