NOT TILL AUGUST.
Retrenchment at Waitaki Hydro Works.
The rumour that a bach of 250 men in the employ of the Public Works Department on the Waitaki hydroelectric scheme work were to be discharged owing to the advanced state of the work, is denied by Mr R. H. Packwood, the engineer-in-charge. Mr Packwood stated to-day that there should be no considerable retrenchment till about the end of August. There were at present about 730 men engaged, and they would be kept at full strength until the works neared completion. With normal weather, that would be about the end of August. It was hoped, he added, to have the works operating soon after the dam was finished
