Pound Scheme to Operate

at Riccarton..

Tile Mayor, Mr H. S. S.' Kyle, M.P., •presided over a meeting of the Riccarton Borough Relief Committee last evening, The chairman explained the coupon scheme which was to he adopted by in metropolitan committee., but, as it was considered that the cash value of the coupon would he very small, it was decided to. operate the Pound Scheme in the borough on the same lines as in past ydfers. The first collection would commence on Monday. June 18. and the depot would be open for distribution on Friday. June 22, between 1U a.m. am. The chairman appealed to all those persons who had the necessary time, and were willing to do so, to act as collectors for supplies of clothing, especially children’s clothing. Albs Kyle reported that the sum of £1 11s <sd had been raised by means of a bridge party organised by AJrs Kyle and Aliss Green. It was decided to hand this sum io Mrs White for the purchase of material for making garATrs C. \V. Barrell suggested that the committee should apply to the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Mayor’s Relief of Distress Fund for a supply of clothing. The secretary was instructed to make application. The chairman advised that a letter had been received? from the Lyttelton Harbour Board stating that grants Were being made to local body relief committees. Last year the sum of £ls was received from the board, but Mb Kyle said that it had been decided to ask for a gbant of £2O this year.

It was decided that clothing be distributed on the same day as the issue of rations.
