ASHBURTON STOCK SALE.

(Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, June 12.

Except for a few particularly nice pens of butchers* ewes, the fat sheep at the Ashburton saleyards to-day were only a fair average lot.

The market opened brightly with prices as good as last week for the primest lots, but other sorts were a little easier. The best price for ewes this morning was 22s Gd, obtained by Mr p. Lysaght (Fairton) for one, while Mr T. Rutherford (Springburn) got 20s Id for six, Mr J. Mitchell (Seafield) 19s 4d for six and Mr J. Burgess (Staveley) the same price for five. Mr S. Reveley (Mount Somers) received, 18s lOd for nine and a client got ISs Id for seven. Other good ewes ranged from 17s 4d to 16s 4d, medium sorts ranged from 16s 1d to 15s Id and lighter weights ranged from 14s lOd to 13s Id.

Top price for wethers this morning was 265, obtained by Mr IT. J. M’Cosker (Riverside) for six, and he sold

seven at 25s 4d and eight at 25s Id. Mr J. C. Guinness (Ealing) got. 22s 7d for two, Mr A. Bennlson (Seafield) 21s 11 for ten and 20s 10d for seven. Mr A. Smitheram (Allenton) got 25s 6d for

one lamb and E>r G. I. Miller (Ashbur ton) 25s 3d for one.

The best sale in the cattle pens was a fat heifer at £5 2s 6d. Other sales in the cattle pens were: Steer £2 7s 6d, heifer £1 12s 6d, cow £1 12s Gd, heifer

A fat cow, offered on account of the estate of the late G. W. Leadley was passed at auction at £4 15s. Sales in the store pens were: Young cow £1 ss, aged cow £1 10s, Jersey bull 10s, empty cow £2 2s 6d.
