Disturbance in Auckland Street. Per Press Assoc < ation. AUCKLAND, May 21. Four men, including a naval petty officer, appeared in the Police Court as a sequel to a disturbance in the city cn Saturday night. It was stated that a laige crowd gathered when the police were trying to make arrests, and was very hostile. Joseph Henry Hayes, aged twenty four years, a labourer, for obstructing the police, was sentenced to fourteen day's’ gaol. George Edward Porter, aged twentyfour, an engineer and labourer, for assaulting a constable, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. James M’Ewan, aged thirty-six, * labourer, for inciting the crowd to disorder, was sentenced to twenty-one days. Daniel Charles Pyke, aged twentyfour, a stoker, was ordered to be handed over to the naval authorities.

Government stocks were again in demand, but the only lots on offer were one of 33 per cent at £lO2 and one of 4 per cent, 1940 stock, for which £lO6 10s was wanted. In the coal section, Pukemiros were asked for. Buyers raised their limits to £1 5s without securing supplies. Taupiris were valued at between 13s 9d and 15s 9d, both buyers and sellers dropping their limits by 3d. In the mining section, sales of Maliakipawas at 8d and'7*d respectively reflect the sharp drop in that scrip, which sold up to Is 3d a week ago. In banks and insurances there were few changes, but buyers of Bank of New Zealand shares dropped their offers to £2 10s. BRIAN BORU DREDGE. Per Press Association. GREYMOUTH, May 21. The Brian Boru return was 330 z 16 dwts. for 107 hours. CHARLESTON RETURN. The Charleston Sluicing Company’s return was 230 z ldwt for 22 shifts. POULTRY AND EGGS. The Canterbury Co-operative Poultry Producers Ltd. report that heavy yard‘ings of poultry at Wednesday’s and Friday’s sales. Bidding was spirited for all finished lines. There was a distinct shortage of heavy boilers and well-fin-ished chicken, the demand being in excess of supply. Offerings of poor quality drew little attention from buyers. The following prices were realised per pair:—Roasting chicken, heavy, scarce, to Ss 9d; medium, fair, to 6s 3d: light, heavy supply, to 4s 3d. Boilers—Heavy, short supply, to 7s; medium to light, up to 4s 6d. Pullets and yearling hens— Lines of these sold at 9s and 5s respectively. Turkeys, to Is per lb.
