POSTAL CLERK’S THEFT.

Judge Grants Two Years’ Probation. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 21. Robert James Gillies, aged 37 years, a postal clerk of Ngaruawahia, was admitted to two years’ probation by Mr Justice Ostler when he appeared for sentence on two charges of theft. It was stated that he had an unblemished record until the thefts, which involved £2l. Counsel said that the prisoner had difficulty in carrying on his household and the strain had affected his mental stability. The Judge said that he would take into account the comparative smallness of the theft and the fact that prisoner’s stability had been affected by war service.
