THE COMPETITIONS.

Recalls in To-day’s Classes. To-dav marked the beginning of the final week of the Competitions festival. Classes were judged only in the Civic Theatre, where piano and "vocal item= were heard. The preliminaries of two scholarship classes have yet to be judged, and finals will be concluded on Wednesday evening. The festival will conclude with demonstration concerts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening. To-day’s recalls were as follows: CHIEF PIANO SOLO. Man or woman. “ Capriccio ” (York Bowen). Twelve entries. Recalls: Mias Vera Yager (St Albans), Mr Gordon Anderson (Christchurch) and Miss Jean M’Leod (Linwood). Highly commended; Miss Margot Watt (Ashburton). PIANO DUET. Fifteen and under eighteen. Own selection. Twelve entries. Recalls: Misses Moira Gibson and Zena Lanyon (Christchurch). Miss Betty Waters and Mr Ashleigh Fetch (St Albans) and Misses Rita Dixon and Noeline Burgess (St Albans). Highly commended: Misses Joan and Helen Salkeld (Papanui). TO-NIGHT’S PROGRAMME. Starting at 7.30 this evening, the programme at the Civic Theatre will be as follows:—Piano duet, fifteen and under r-ighteen, own selection: recitation, girls, ten and under twelve. “The Lost Shoe” (Walter de la Mare): duet in character, thirteen and under sixteen, second section: character duo, twelve and over; twenty minutes* entertainment, any age seventh section: song in character, man or woman, fourth section: ballet, under I twelve, operatic, second section; English song. men. open: humorous character sketch, fifth section; acrobatic dance, any age; and one-act play, seventh section.
