GOOD BOWLING.

Leicestershire Subdued by O’Reilly. BRADMAN CAPTAINS SIDE. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, May 5. W. J. O’Reilly’s bowling was devastating to the Leicestershire batsmen who faced the Australian cricket team on the opening day of the second match of the tour, at Leicester. Leicestershire won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 152 in the first innings O’Reilly taking seven wickets for 39 runs. Australia had scored 61 runs for the loss of one wicket when stumps were drawn. The teams are:— Australia—D. G. Bradman (captain), W. H. Ponsford, L. S. Darling, L. O’B. Fleetwood-Smith, E. H. Bromley, B. A Barnett, H. I. Ebeling, A. F. Kippax, S. J. M’Cabe, W. J. O’Reilly, W. A. Brown. Leicestershire—E. W. Dawson (captain), N. F. Armstrong, A. Shipman, L. G. Berry, A. G. Hazelrigg, A. G. Weston, A. Riddington, G. Geary, H. A. Smith, P. Corral, W. E. Astill. Bradman captained Australia for the first time. Owing to heavy rain, play began an hour late, and was twice interrupted before lunch, by which time Dawson and Shipman had put on 39. The greasy ball made the bowlers' task difficult, but O’Reilly, flighting the ball cleverly, kept the batsmen subdued. In the first over after lunch, when 4000 spectators were present, O’Reilly bowled Dawson and Armstrong with successive balls, Leicestershire’s total then being 45 for two wickets. Keeping a perfect length, O’Reilly soon had Shipman, who had shaped nicely, caught at silly mid-on. O’Reilly continued to intimidate the batsmen, again getting two wickets with successive deliveries, those of Hazelrigg and Weston, and then confidently appealed for leg before against Riddington on the next ball. However, he failed to achieve the hat trick. O’Reilly had then taken five wickets for 23 runs and Leicestershire’s total was 68 for five wickets. The next two overs yielded two more victims to O’Reilly. The batsmen obviously knew little of his intentions. Having bowled unchanged for two hours, O’Reilly was taken off at 124. He had taken seven wickets for 39 runs. M'Cabe and Fleetwood-Smith shared the last three wickets, Leicestershire being all out for 152. The innings occupied 190 minutes. Brown and Ponsford opened quietly for Australia, but when the total was 22, Ponsford went out leg before. Bradman early in his innings gave a chance in the slips, but after that he and Brown batted confidently, although Brown gave two very difficult chances. Chipperfield is still confined to his room and will not be available for the match with Cambridge University starting next Wednesday. Scores:— LEICESTERSHIRE. First Innings. E. W.
