Neville Moulin to Turn Professional. LOCAL SCHOOLS BUSY. The Christchurch Sports Club an- | nounces that Neville Moulin, one of the most popular figures in the amateur ring in Canterbury, has decided to turn professional. Moulin, who holds the Canterbury light-weight title, will have his last bout as an amateur against Stoker Swan, of H.M.S. Dunedin, shortly. Swan arrived in Christchurch this week, and will participate in the coming tournament. Moulin has been boxing for nearly ten years and has developed a technique that is second to none in Canterbury. For some years he was the undisputed champion of the province, boxing his way cleanly past bigger and more powerfully built men. Last year he met a strong rival in Jack NeTligan, and on that occasion had the closest fight of his life. There are many who say that Moulin does not possess a knock-out punch, basing their opinion on his performances in the tournament ring, but others who have seen Moulin at work in the gymnasium have a different estimate of him. It is said that a North Island club intends to offer Moulin his first professional fight. Lyttelton Amateurs. Visiting Lyttelton last week, members of the Christchurch Sports Club fotind Benny Graham’s gymnasium in full swing. Dick Soott, who is now a full-fledged welter-weight of 10.5, looks well and is keen for a bout in about four weeks’ time. Steve Page will now box as a feather-weight. His present weight is 9.2. Between seasons this hoy has developed considerably. Bethell, the winner of the novice bantam, will also box as a feather, his weight being rvow 9.4. Gordon Tyro since his operation lias been on the sick list and it may be late in the season before he is seen in action. Ron Moore, winner of 1933 novice welters, is also training in this school, besides a number <of promising youngsters. Mr Graham is to lie congratulated on his natty gymnasium and it will always be a pleasure to visit the Lyttelton instructor. Jim Watson has his boys well In hand. Percy Hawes is now training at this school and gave a brilliant work-out over fifteen rounds during the week, engaging seven different sparring partners over the journey. Hawes never looked better, and is confident that he can regain his lost Man in Training. A. J. Hawes is patricularly fit for his bout with Norm Fisher, and Ait Bourne is very disappointed that he is not figuring in the preliminaries on Tuesday night against Brant, iof Timaru. George Low, the welter, also a member of the Opawa school, is boxing exceptionally well at present. Hunter is the welter emergency on the programme, and Patterson also figures in that capacity. Roy Lester. Bob Overend and Kerr, winner of the last feather-weight novice, are all members of the same school. Pat Price, the middle-weight of the Celtic Boxing Club, will make a reappearance after a spell of about eighteen months. Pat has been doing some hard training and will take the ring fit and well. Eddie Fail has come through a solid preparation and appears to be suffering no ill consequences from his operation last year. Dick Simpson reports that Denis Glover is well and as University champion he will be a tough opponent in the welter-weight fight. Rayner and his trainer are expected to arrive here during the week-end. Reports are to the effect that he is showing to better advantage this season. His last two opponents have failed to go the distance with him. Val Luttrell, the Napier heavyweight, who is engaged by the Southland Association to meet Maurice Strickland at an early date, will break his journey in Christchurch, and has arranged for a ten-round work-out with three local boxers. The Rakaia Boxing Club is in touch with Jim Thompson, trainer of George Wright, bantam champion of New Zealand, and is endeavouring to arrange a fight, to be staged at Rakaia, the other man to be selected.
