MOUTH OF RIVER.

Waimakariri is Going Further South. REPORT TO BOARD. In a report to the Waimakariri River Trust yesterday, the engineei staged that a resurvey of the mouth of the river had disclosed a further travel southwards amounting to five chains since the last fixation seven months ago. It would be advisable to extend the scrub fences further to the southward to assist the building of sand dunes for the purpose of preventing any break through the low portion of the spit that had not so far been dealt with. It was further reported that the joining up of the Coutts Island bank to the cross bank at M’Lean’s Island had been completed. Gangs at present were putting in road crossings, straightening and levelling up the road and building the low banquette behind the cross barhk to strengthen the main embankment. Good progress had been made during the month with the work on the Styx floodgates and bridge.
