NEW BAND UNIFORM.

Designed by New Brighton Girl. For their coming trip to Melbourne to participate in the centenary celebrations, the Woolston Band will wear attractive and distinctive uniforms, designed by the eighteen-year-old daughter of Mr F. J. Turner, of New Brighton, secretary of the band. The uniform is of dark navy cloth, with red and gold trimmings. The tunic is double-breasted, the edge being cut diagonally, and trimmed with red and gold. The belt is red, the buttons gold, and the epaulettes red. The cap has a red peak, with gold badge and trimmings. In view of the fact that the present uniforms of the band have been in use for twelve years, the patron of the band, Mr A. L. Cropp, suggested some time ago that a contest for designs of new uniforms be held. A special committee was set up to consider the designs submitted, and four were selected. These were shown to the band, who voted for Miss Olga Turner’s design by a good majority. Miss Turner has been a pupil of the School of Art, and has some knowledge of designing, though this is the first work of this kind she has done. She thus wins the prize of £lO offered by the band. The band, according to present arrangements, leaves for Melbourne on October 28, and it is hoped to have the uniforms completed some time before that date.
