BUDGET “INSULT.”
Meanest on Record, Says Labour Critic. RESOLUTIONS CARRIED. United Press Assn.—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. (Received April 18. 1.15 p.m.) LONDON, April 17. ** This is the meanest Budget on record.” declared Major Attlee. Labour member for Limehouse, when the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Neville Chamberlain) had concluded his Budget speech. ” Mr Chamberlain has been wonderfully generous at other people * expense. The poorer people, and even the taxpayers, have been put aside. The Budget is an insult to the unemployed, from whom millions have been taken and a paltry £3,500,000 restored .” The Budget resolutions were carried.
