MILK FOR SCHOOLS.

Wharenui Householders Approve of Scheme. The question of milk for school children was discussed at the Wharenui School householders’ meeting last’ evening. The chairman (Mr P. G. Stringer) said that a cocoa scheme had been successfully operated for those who bad lunch at school. It had been suggested that this scheme should be extended and cocoa distributed at playtime. If this was done, every child wouid receive the hot drink. Before the committee would discuss the introduction of the milk scheme, it would want some assurance that the scheme would support itself without any undue obligation to the parents and committee. “ The committee is in the position that it has to watch its expenses,” said Mr Stringer. “At the end of last year there was a little credit balance, but that is for fuel ” A householder: If the Government can allow its Ottawa representatives 10s a dav for refreshments, surely it can do '•omethine towards the supplying of milk to the children. “If any scheme is brought in. it must be for every child and not just a few.” the chairman concluded. The meeting recommended to the committee that it should suoport a -cheme which would enable every •hild to participate.
