Gatherings Held in Town and Country. CELTIC RIFLE CLUB'S DANCE. Members of the Celtic Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club celebrated the opening of the season by holding a successful dance in the Marist Hall, which was decorated with coloured streamers. Spcial lighting effects and a number of novelty dances added to the enjoyment of those present. Mrs Wilson’s Melody Makers supplied the music and Mr R. Sumner was M.G. The committee responsible for the arrangements comprised: Mesdames Whittaker, Nuttall, Agazzis and Miss M. Smith (assistant secretary), Messrs A. Anderson, A. Cookson and A. A social afternoon was held recently at the Edgeware Croquet Club to bid farewell to Mrs Schnack, who will shortly leave Christchurch to live in Timaru. During the afternoon competitions were enjoyed and afternoon tea was served. Afterwards, Mrs Schnack was presented with a shopping bag and book with the best wishes of the members of the club. Occasion was also taken to wish the captain of the club (Mrs J. W. Beaniand) bon voyage and a safe return from her holiday. Mrs Schnack and Mrs Beanland were both presented with bouquets. The following members were present: Mesdames Schnack, Beaniand, Calvert, Collins, Colville, Colwill, Dalton, Gordon, Jones, Knight, Legg, Lorimer, Matson, Malcolm, Neutze, M’Cullough, Poison, Powley. Scott, Tisch and Weavers and Miss MTnman. Pantry Afternoon. Mrs G. Tindall and Miss Betty Glover, Athelston Street, Spreydon, were hostesses at a pantry afternoon in honour of Miss Stella Coomber, whose wedding will take place to-mor-row. Orange marigolds formed the decorations in the dining-room. Competitions were won by Miss Gwen Greikson, Mrs Lapsley and Mrs Tindall. Those present were: Mesdames Coomber Hegan, Wilson, Lapsley, Burfot. Rolfe and M’Elroy, Misses Molly Ewing, Martha Smith, Gwen Kreikson, Hazel Street, Stella Coomber, Betty Glover and June M’Elroy Kitchen Evening. A kitchen evening was given recently by Mr and Mrs C. G. Douglas, Sullivan Avenue. Opawa, and friends in honour ot Miss Dorothy Blunt, of Ferry Road, who will be married shortly. The evening was spent in games and competitions. A surprise kitchen evening, at which Mrs A. *C. Fuller was hostess, was given in honour of Miss M. L. Irwin, who has been on the teaching staff of the Cheviot School for approximately two years and who is to be married shortly. The evening was spent in dancing and musical items. During the evening Mrs Fuller presented the guest of honour with a posy, and Mr J. M. M’Kenzie. on behalf of those present, wished her every happiness. During the evening items were contributed by Mrs A. C. Fuller (song), Mrs B. Buttle (recitation) and Mr J. M. M’Kenzie (songs). A playette staged by Mrs A. C. Fuller, Miss Bowie and Messrs J. M. M’Kenzie, H. Marquet and T. E. Crossen, was well received. Miss E. Cull and Mr R. Powell were the winners of a lucky spot waltz. Music for the dancing was supplied by Miss N. Fraser and Mr R. Clarke.
