Gold Miners’ Wages

Dear Sir, —A monthly report of the Alexander gold mines appeared in your paper, in which it stated that the miners were asking for a 10 per cent increase on their wages. The statement may be misleading to the general public. The demands of the miners are for the restoration of the 10 per cent cut at Alexander gold mine; something they had in 1931 when gold was £4 per ounce and to-day gold is selling at £B. I will leave it to vour readers to say whether the demands are reasonable or not.—l am. etc.. J. M’GREGOR. Secretary, Inangahua Miners’ Union.
