Child Dies From Severe Scalding. WEEK-END ACCIDENTS. The death of Daphne Mavis June Broadhurst, the five-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs C.' Broadhurst, occurred at the Christchurch Public Hospital late last evening, following a severe scalding. The child fell into a copper of boiling water at her parents’ residence in ITigbsted Road, Papanui, on Friday evening. Death From Gunshot. The body of William Oswald Pearce, aged thirty years, was found with a bullet wound in the head at his father’s residence, Cookson Street, Kaiapoi. at 1.45 p.m. yesterday afternoon. Pearce was dead when found and alongside the body was a .22 calibre rifle. He had been unemployed andhad not been in good health for seme time. An inquest will be held at Kaiapoi at 3.30 p.m. to-day. Cyclists Injured. Two cyclists were knocked down by motor-cars in different parts of Christchurch on Saturday evening, and suffered minor injuries. In each case the St John Ambulance was called into service. A man named Straw, of Hills Road, St Martins, was knocked down in Milton Street. He received injuries to his back, and was taken to his home by the ambulance. Edward Callaghan, aged fourteen, of 4. Breeze’s Road, Aranui, was knocked down at 7.30 p.m. He received injuries to his knees and head, and was taken to the Christchurch Hospital, where he was treated as an out-pa-tient and’ discharged.
