BOWLING.

Fine' New Trophies for Sumner Club. Two very interesting donations to the Sumner Bowling Club were on view on Saturday afternoon. They were a new past presidents’ honour board and the Mackintosh Cup. The board is a handsome oak, three-panel tablet, heavily framed and surmounted by a massive projecting canopy in classic design. It was designed by Mr F. Barlow, who was assisted in the building of it by Mr H. Kennett. The gold lettering was the gift of Mr T. H. Newburgh. The Mackintosh Cup was presented by Mr R. Mackintosh, of Rangiora. for competition with the Sumner Club, and was won for the first time by Sumner this year. The cup is turned from a piece of laburnum from a tree planted seventy years ago by Mr Dudley in Rangiora. It stands nearly a foot high, and holds a bowl 100 years old. This bowl is turned with a very flat side to secure sufficient bias, and is a very well preserved and substantial specimen of the type of bowl used in those days. The cup is adorned with a silver shield, and it is the intention of the Sumner Club to add a silver band round the base on which to record the winner. Additional gifts inolutfe bowls for visitors by Messrs T. H. Newburgh, A. Topping and A. A. Cheshire, a lowl stand and renovations to the billiards room by Mr T. H. Undrill. St Albans Club. The St. Albans Bowling and Croquet Club closed its season on Saturday. Competitions of various kinds were played in both sections, and for those not engaged in these there were golf putting competitions. There was a good attendance of members and visitors, and everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Kaia, poi Tournament.
