Grounds Fully Occupied by Teams. Most of the men’s hockey clubs held their opening days on Saturday, and the grounds were fully occupied. Redcliffs and Technical played a friendly game at Linwood. The Recllffs senior team will be somewhat weaker than last season's on account of several of the members being out of town. At Hagley Park all men s and women’s grounds were fully taxed to provide accommodation for the number of teams requiring practice. Selwyn and Varsity were out in full force, and some good hockey was witnessed. Harewood held their opening at Elmwood Park, having arranged a match with a country team. Trinity had a good muster at Lyttelton, but there were only a few members of the senior team out, as many had to work during the afternoon. The policy of the Canterbury Association in fostering the game In the Malvern district has borne fruit, and the game will be fairly established this season with eight teams in the competition. Primary schools’ hockey is flourishing, and there is probably an increase of three more teams in Hornby and Medbury and an additional team from Addington. Matches at New Brighton.
